Mary Ann's Story, March 2008
I have always found Health Utah staff very professional. They provide me with valuable information about my overall general health. The biggest issue with my health is I have high cholesterol so I try to check it often to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get too high. The reason I want to make the change is that high cholesterol runs in my family and several members of my family have developed heart problems later in life because of their high cholesterol problem.
At Health Utah I asked lots of questions about my health and the staff is always able to provide me with some valuable tips on how to change or improve my health. They take the time to explain the results of the tests they administer and give me ideas on how to change or improve my health.
At my last visit to Health Utah, I told the person who helped me that Healthy Utah saved my life!! Well, maybe not that dramatic but they certainly prompted me to have a doctor check some of my symptoms. A couple of years ago, I lost quite a bit of weight (who doesn't want to do THAT) but I wasn't overweight to begin with so it was a concern. Then my blood pressure showed I was on the high side of normal and my resting heart rate was over 100. The Health Utah rep told me that something was definitely going on and he encouraged me to see my doctor right away.
I saw my doctor and was diagnosed with hyper-thyroid condition (Grave's disease). I was treated for my condition and now have to take daily medication – that is the down side. But on the good side of things, I am back to relatively normal health - well, whatever normal is!!
Thanks for having a wonderful program that provides state employees valuable health information! I recommend the program to all state employees. It can improve and even save lives!
