Faye's Story, July 2007
On June 24, 2005, I met with Healthy Utah. I weighed 214 lbs. I had been dealing with a Sciatica Nerve problem a couple years prior and had been to physical therapy and been given stretches to do, etc. I went to a pain clinic where I received steroid injections to help with the pain. I did get the pain under control and was continuing to do the stretches and had started using a stationary bike and tried to workout 30 min 3 times a week.

When I met with Healthy Utah, I met with Nathan and he told me that if I wanted to loose weight, I should ride the stationary bike 5 days a week and to get my heart rate up between 103-128 per minute while on the bike. This was the first time I had been given any kind of plan to follow, so I thought I would try it. I started getting up an hour earlier in the morning and rode my bike for 45 minutes and then did my stretches to cool down. A funny thing happened where I watched what I ate closer because I didn’t want to counteract the hard work I had done that morning. I stopped snacking and eating treats that were brought in to work, etc. My husband has diabetes and we were already watching sugar and carb intake. When I went in a year later to Healthy Utah, my weight was 181. I am still exercising and loosing weight 1 lb at a time and I feel great. This has been one of the greatest things that has happened to me. I get compliments from family and friends, which encourages me to keep it up. I think I am now hooked on exercise. I have had to get new clothes, which is a fun thing to do. I have found clothes that I had put away thinking I would never be able to fit in them again. I appreciate Healthy Utah’s plan on getting back in shape and the incentives are great too!
